The BrainBox range by The Green Board Game Company is an ever expanding collection of educational learning activities. There are these boxed memory games, travel games and jigsaw puzzles available and they all have excellent educational value. The box games have a retail price of between £7.00 and £11.00 depending on which one you want and where you buy from. That makes them not only great fun but also great value. We have four here at home and I plan on adding to our collection regularly.
Memory games are a wonderful tool for everyone. Children and adults alike can benefit from playing them because they are believed to help with improving and maintaining good memory function.
With this in mind, we decided to ask the boys’ Great Grandma to help us with our review of BrainBox Transport.
Inside the box you will find 55 cards, one rules card, one sand timer and one die. Starting with the youngest, each player takes their turn. The object of the game is to study a card for 10 seconds and then answer a question based on the roll of a die. If the question is answered correctly, the card is kept, and the person with the most number of cards after 5 or 10 minutes is the winner.
Ten seconds is actually not that long at all when you’re frantically trying to soak up every last detail on the card you’re holding! Questions on the back of the cards are varied and can’t easily be prepared for. Question one could be about the colour of a vehicle while question five could ask if there are any birds in the sky. Only the roll of the die will determine which question you are asked so those ten seconds of study are really important.
This was a great brain exercise for the boys and for Grandma and everyone thoroughly enjoyed playing. These games being only ten minutes long means the kids don’t get bored with it, which in turn results in the game being chosen from the shelf more often. The boys can so easily choose a game, play it for a longer period of time and then not choose it again for months. BrainBox games are short, sharp injections of fun designed to keep players fully absorbed in the game for a short space of time.
