What I wore: Summer maxi dress

Posted by

If there’s one good thing about being pregnant in the height of summer it’s that you can get away with wearing maxi dresses most days. They are so forgiving and you don’t have to spend extra on clothes just because they are labelled ‘maternity’. A long dress will see you right through your pregnancy and then cover your mum tum afterwards too!

My favourite piece of clothing this summer is my lovely Joe Browns Overdyed Mexicana maxi dress from JD Williams. I love the Joe Browns brand because I know the quality is good. They are perhaps slightly more expensive than some high street brands but I’m happy to pay for quality I can rely on.

JD Williams Joe Browns maxi dress While I am hurtling towards the category of ‘heavily pregnant’, I am determined to wear a heeled shoe for as long as possible – I’m too short to wear flats! I can’t have a heel too high, but I do love a pretty pair of summer sandals. I love my Sole Diva sandals because they come in an extra wide fit, which is perfect for my poor swollen feet!

Dress

When you are pushed for time, you need dresses that you can just throw on. Make sure you have some pretty underwear on too and you’ll feel like you’ve really got it together! (Or is that just me?) My dress is fully lined, which is a big bonus for me. I hate to be able to see through a dress when the light hits it! The stitching is done properly and the material isn’t too heavy, making the dress comfortable and flowing despite the lining.

Sandals

Tan footwear is so versatile and will compliment almost any outfit, so that’s the colour I opted for in a bid to be able to wear them as often as possible before I’m too pregnant!

They do have a heel but it’s not all that high – 3.25 inches including the platform. The extra wide fitting means that even those of us with wider (or swollen!) feet can have pretty shoes too. The upper is leather, it’s soft and durable and the heel is thick enough not to have me wobbling over on it.

I love to add fresh pieces to my wardrobe regularly, but I do like value for money. I either buy lower value clothes for one season or slightly higher to last me more than that. These will definitely be staying with me through next summer too!
