Brand new to the market, Valentines Day saw the launch of the first series of L.O.L Surprise! dolls in the UK. Their unboxing videos have been going crazy on YouTube, and L.O.L Surprise! dolls are set to be the latest collectable craze from MGA Entertainment.
I received one of these L.O.L Surprise! dolls to review in the run up to the launch date, and my inner child was looking forward to finding out what the ‘7 surprise layers’ would be.
Seven layers of surprise
You get seven layers of fun with every L.O.L. Surprise doll! Inside there is a secret message sticker, a collectible sticker sheet, a water bottle charm, a pair of shoes, an outfit, an accessory and a L.O.L. Surprise! doll with water surprise.
Feed your doll with the water bottle to find out if she cries, spits, tinkles. Or bathe her in cold water to see if colour changes! The LOL doll is the best layer of surprise! Dress her in all of the accessories you’ve revealed. Each character is completely different. If you’re lucky, you unboxed the rare, Gliteratti! There are 45 dolls to collect in series one, each with the full seven layers of surprises. The case can be used as either a mini bag or purse, a display stand for the doll, a bath play set or a ‘hangout’ play set.
I can definitely see the attraction of these collectables. They are more in-depth than many collectiables on the market at the moment. They can be played with on their own, in sets, and with friends. L.O.L. Surprise! dolls are sold in a similar way to blind bags, and therefore you cannot choose which doll you would like. They are £8.00 each, so duplicates may be a disappointment if children don’t have friends to swap with. These dolls are set to be very popular though, so I imagine people will be able to find someone to swap with fairly easily once the craze really takes off here in the UK.
L.O.L. Surprise! dolls are sold in good toy shops including Argos and Smyths. They have an RRP of £7.99 and are suitable for age 3+.
