Car Review: Vauxhall Crossland X

Posted by

We’ve recently been trying out the Vauxhall Crossland X. The Crossland X is a crossover SUV and part of the X range alongside the Mokka X and the Grandland X.

Vauxhall Crossland X

Everyone seems to be buying an SUV these days, particularly families like ours, and so the Crossland X needs to offer a USP if it is to be chosen over the many other SUV options on the market.

So how did we find it?

Space

The Crossland X is really versatile when it comes to creating space. It has a 60/40 split folding rear seat which gave us greater flexibility when trying to fit everything in!

Our stroller is pretty bulky as far as strollers go, but I could fit it in the boot along with several bags of shopping once I removed the flex floor which gave me the extra space I needed.

Style

The Crossland X has style in abundance. With a contrast roof colour and co-ordinating mirrors, our Crossland X in Amber Orange with Mineral Black roof really turned heads as we drove around town in it.

We took the Vauxhall Crossland X out to the Ribble Valley and onto the Yorkshire Moors to really stretch it’s legs, so to speak. The Crossland X is great on the winding roads and the boys loved exploring the area.

Tech

Our Crossland X had some serious tech on board. I loved the easy to connect Android Auto (the car also has Apple CarPlay) – hands free is an absolute must for me when I’m in the car.

Something the children were very excited about was the Vauxhall OnStar feature, which enabled them to be online as we travelled. Tweens(!)

There is also an SOS feature on board. Don’t press that unless you are in trouble – or you will end up in trouble as my husband discovered!

Drive

The Crossland X is a nice, smooth drive in and around town. Country roads are no issue either and the 1.6l engine copes perfectly in either setting.

Cruise control with speed limiter comes as standard, as do alloy wheels, auto lighting and windscreen wipers, dark tinted rear windows and a lot more besides. For the on the road price of £21,380.00 the Crossland X has all the gadgets, safety features and comfort quality you would ask for in a family car.

Comfort

With adjustable seats in the front including lumbar support, there is no excuse for not being able to drive comfortably in the Vauxhall Crossland X. Just take the time to find the right settings for you and you’ll be driving in comfort every time.

Three children fit in the back at a bit of a squeeze (we have one baby seat and one booster, with the biggest child in the middle). For short journeys that would suit us fine but I’m not sure a road trip would be comfortable.

Overall

I liked the Vauxhall Crossland X. I think it might be a little bit on the small side for a family of five, and though we did fit all three children in the back they felt a bit hemmed in.

My husband commented on the safety features of the car, which was something he really liked about it. Side protection mouldings, six airbags and a tyre pressure monitoring system are all welcome additions to a vehicle when you’re travelling with your most precious people!
