Tesco Meal for Two

Posted by

This weekend we tried a Tesco Finest* meal for two.

To be honest I didn’t even know that Tesco did these, but we have had them from another supermarket before now and I have always found them to be excellent value for money.

So off I went to Tesco, having heard about their upcoming Valentines Meal offer for £20. Upon arrival, however, I soon learned that the deal I was after won’t be available until later in the week, and so instead I thought I’d try their meal for two.

I chose Lamb and Aubergine Filo Pies with a side of Roasted Potatoes in Goose Fat, a dessert of Swiss Chocolate and Salted Caramel Melting Middle Puddings, and a bottle of  Chardonnay.

That’s a mouthful, isn’t it! (See what I did there?! )

The main meal was just the pie and the potatoes,  and although it would’ve been filling enough without, we added some broccoli to it just to give us some vegetables.

The pastry was lovely and thin, and although the lamb was minced, which was a slight disappointment as I was hoping it would be diced, it was still delicious. The roast potatoes were good, although they did take a good 15 minutes longer to cook properly than was suggested on the packaging so just make sure you’re happy with them before dishing up.

The dessert was something I’d never tried before – salted caramel. I’ve heard many people say how much they like salted caramel but unfortunately it just isn’t for me and I didn’t like it at all. The surrounding chocolate sponge was very light and was really quite nice though. I added a little cream to mine to give the dish some moisture, having removed the ‘melting middle’.

£10 meal dessert

I personally wasn’t keen on the wine either, but that of course is down to personal preference. It wasn’t a particularly smooth-tasting white and I usually do like Chardonnay.

The meal deal is fantastic value for money at £10 for two people and I will definitely try it again with different choices. In store there are a good selection of options for all meal components, and the deal is on continuously as far as I could tell from signs in store.

Later in the week I’ll be looking at the deal I originally planned to review today; the Tesco Valentines Meal.
