Earlier this week I wrote a review on the Tesco meal for two deal for £10.00, and yesterday we also tried the valentines offer of a similar type.
We opted for a main course of Chicken in Pear Cider, a side order of Mushroom & Spinach Gratin, a chocolate eclair dessert (just the one as there were no more left – although we were offered extra vegetables which we served to the children with their meal instead) and a bottle of Cava.
The pear cider sauce was delicious, and although the chicken breast wasn’t huge, it was sufficient and I felt there was enough food on the plate. The gratin was definitely more mushroom than spinach, but since my husband and I are both fans of mushrooms it wasn’t a problem!
As I say, we ended up with just one dessert between us so I found my soppy side (it was well hidden – anyone that knows Ted & I knows that I’m not very soppy!)
So I decorated the single eclair using the fondant provided (nice touch, Tesco) and gave him half of …
The cava was quite sharp, and I was a bit disappointed with it unfortunately, but adding a little drop of framboise to each glass improved it greatly and nothing was wasted! It retailed separately at £8.99 a bottle so I wasn’t expecting perfection, but I would buy it again, personally.
Overall, the meal was quite good. I did have some customer service issues but since the review is for the food I haven’t deemed it relevant to this post. £20 is a good price for what you should get with this deal and Tesco do offer a good range of foods to choose from.
disclaimer: Tesco sent me vouchers to choose and buy this meal in return for a review.
